The Chestico Museum’s 2014 summer ceilidh series kicked off on July 3rd. We had a big crowd in attendance (including a few Downton Abbey Tea ladies!) and they were treated to a fine show!
Maggie Beaton was our fiddler and she was accompanied by Cathy Hawley on piano – lots of great tunes!
We were also fortunate to have the very talented Marie Aucoin and Bill MacDonald with us. Marie performed a selection of lovely Cape Breton, Irish, Scottish and French songs. As always, Bill was quick with an amusing story and had every singing along with “Will Ye Go Lassie Go” and “Farewell to Nova Scotia.”
Thank you to Walter & Mary for bringing us these beautiful peonies!
The evening also featured the unveiling of our 4 new display panels that were researched by the Chestico Museum with graphic design by Mary Vuillemot & Walter Delorey of MV Design in Mabou. Anne Beaton, President of the Chestico Historical Society introduced the panels and she and past President Charlie MacDonald unveiled them.
We then officially launched our new book, Safe Harbour: A Brief History of Port Hood, Nova Scotia. Cathy Gillies introduced the book and it was available for signing by the authors. Copies of the book may be purchased at the museum for $25.
It was a great start to another summer of ceilidhs at the Chestico Museum!
