July 25, 2013 Ceilidh

July 25, 2013 CeilidhThe fourth ceilidh of the Chestico Museum’s 2013 summer ceilidh series was held on July 25th and we had a great crowd in attendance.

Our fiddler and piano player were Kinnon and Betty Beaton. Kinnon and Betty are great entertainers and favourites at the Chestico Museum and they were certainly in fine form!

Leo Cameron from Sudbury, ON but originally from Mabou was our vocalist for the evening. Leo brought along his guitar, mandolin and banjo and a fantastic singing voice! His final medley of tunes had everyone singing along and Kinnon & Betty could not resist joining in as well!

And last but certainly not least was Leah O’Donnell of the Celtic Touch Dancers. Leah lives in Port Hood and is the granddaughter of Helen MacDonald – Vice President of the Chestico Museum & Historical Society. Leah is certainly very talented and her dancing was enjoyed by all!

July 18, 2013 Ceilidh

The third ceilidh of the Chestico Museum’s 2013 summer ceilidh series was held on July 18th and we had a big crowd in attendance!

The evening began with some Highland Dancing by the very talented Evany LeVesconte of the Celtic Touch Dancers. Evany did a great job!

Our fiddler was Dara Smith MacDonald who brought along Adam Young to accompany her on piano. Adam & Dara are both extremely talented and we enjoy having them at our museum ceilidhs. Lots of great tunes!

Port Hood’s own Hughie John Beaton was on hand with his guitar and he performed a number of well known songs. A great job as usual!

As always, tea was served after the show and people had a chance to visit with new and old friends. It was a most enjoyable evening all around.

July 11, 2013 Ceilidh

The second ceilidh of the Chestico Museum’s 2013 summer ceilidh series was held on July 11th and it was a real treat!

Kinnon & Betty Beaton along with Pius MacIsaac performed a number of tunes that had everyone tapping their toes!

Michelle Greenwell of Dance Debut was also with us for some step dancing. Michelle gave us a bit of the history of step dancing which was most informative.

And last but not least was vocalist Laurel Browne who was accompanied by pianist Marianne Jewel. Laurel performed beautiful renditions of 3 diverse songs – Gilbert & Sullivan’s “When I Was a Lad” from HMS Pinafore, “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Mis and “Ave Maria.”

Laurel also treated us to some wonderful storytelling. I’m sure her story about using opera to herd the cows home will be repeated many times!

We had a most appreciative crowd in attendance who enjoyed the evening immensely.
