The fifth ceilidh of the Chestico Museum’s 2013 summer ceilidh series was held on August 1st and we had a huge crowd in attendance due to Chestico Days.
The evening began with a slideshow entitled Chestico Stone Builds Fortress Louisbourg. It was a brief overview of how the French quarried stone in Port Hood to build Fortress Louisbourg. In keeping with that theme, Cathy Gillies and Monica & George Goodall were with us in period costume. They looked fabulous!
After the slideshow, we began our ceilidh. Melanie Holder was our fiddler and she was accompanied by Cathy Hawley on piano. We were fortunate to have Melanie’s husband Donald in attendance and he treated us to some step dancing. Great job by everyone!
The Boys in the Hood – Edgar Cormier, Sandy Gillis and Gerard Walker – were also with us and they played a number of old favourites. We were fortunate they were able to fit us into their very busy Chestico Days schedule!
Lots of great food was available after the ceilidh and people had a chance to visit with old friends. A lovely end to a wonderful evening!
