June 25th Newsmaker Dennis Cameron

DSCF1881Our Newsmakers Series concluded on June 25th with Dennis Cameron as our guest. It was a wonderfully informative evening. Last Fall Dennis landed a tuna at Murphy’s Pond. He then traveled to Japan and followed the sale of that tuna at the main fish market in Tokyo.

Dennis vividly described what goes on at a Japanese fish market. He was particularly impressed with the skills demonstrated by the workers who cut the meat with such precision. He learned a lot from the Japanese and he likewise was able to answer many questions put to him about how tuna are fished in Cape Breton.

Besides speaking of his Japanese adventures, Dennis also spoke of his experience with tagging tuna and how the information gathered from this process is challenging preconceived ideas about how far tuna can travel. It is fascinating what can be learned!

Dennis’ trip to Japan was filmed for a documentary and we look forward to hearing when the program will be released.
