The 2015 Celtic Colours line up has been announced! The Chestico Museum is pleased to once again be hosting two events.
On Tuesday, October 13 at 2 PM, a Tasty Tales Storytelling Session will be held at the museum. The afternoon of stories and tea, will feature tales of the preparation and preserving of foods in an earlier time. Share your stories, taste some of the sample preserves. Admission is $10 and refreshments will be served.
The evening of October 13, the Chestico Museum show Close to the Floor will be held at 7:30 PM at Strathspey Place in Mabou. Cape Breton square dancing is something we take for granted, but like any other tradition, its survival requires careful attention. Fileanta is a newly-formed group of dancers originating at the Gaelic College. Embodying the true essence of Gaelic dance tradition, they’re on a mission to showcase some of the many unique sets from the different regions of Cape Breton. Supporting them all the way will be Nuallan, a vibrant pipe group, also out of the Gaelic College, who are determined to keep a connection between the pipes and dance. Adding to the authenticity of the concert will be one of Cape Breton’s most respected step dancers Harvey Beaton, The Mabou 8 Hand Reel Dancers, Mary Jane Lamond with some puirt à beul, and Kinnon and Betty Lou Beaton, two of our finest dance players.
Ticket prices are $35/$30 and are available through the Celtic Colours site. Tickets go on sale Monday, July 6 at 10 AM ADT. (This concert is SOLD OUT as of October 4th.)
Prior to our Storytelling, you can begin your day with a Chestico Breakfast at St. Peter’s Parish Hall. A full breakfast with pancakes, egg, bacon or sausage and choice of beverage is available between 8 and 10 AM at a cost of $8.
Beginning at 11 AM, you can purchase a delicious soup and sandwich lunch for just $8 at St. Stephen’s Church Hall. After lunch you can browse their sale of assorted local crafts.
A roast beef supper with all the trimmings is available that evening at St. Peter’s Parish Hall beginning at 4:30 PM. The meal is sponsored by the Port Hood Knights of Columbus. The cost is $15 for adults and $7 for children 12 and under.
We look forward to seeing you this year during Celtic Colours!
