The Annual General Meeting of the Chestico Museum and Historical Society was held on Monday, April 20 at the Chestico Museum.
An overview of the previous year’s activities was presented from the minutes of the 2008 AGM. A very busy year indeed with the completion of a one year Job Creation Project with Service Canada in June which saw our museum collection go online with the Virtual Museum of Canada and much work done on our archival records. A museum director, gift shop attendant and summer student kept our doors open for the summer and into the fall and our participation in our annual summer festival “Chestico Days” and Celtic Colours kept us very active. Other projects included our entries for Nova Scotia’s Historic Places and a new online exhibit entitled Highland Connections: Port Hood, World War I and the Cape Breton Highlanders Overseas.
This year, we go forward with another one year grant. Project work to be undertaken: a community history of Port Hood, a digital inventory of built heritage in Port Hood, arranging and describing our archival records, searching out new records to be preserved and, of course, the creation of this new Website!
Our development and business plans for our new building have been completed and are being submitted for approval. Serious fundraising will begin!
