The Chestico Museum & Historical Society offers membership to anyone who is interested in the history of the Port Hood area. Membership costs $15 per year and entitles you to free daily admission to the museum, a 10% discount in our Gift Shop and receipt of our newsletter, Chestico News, which is published three times per year.
Over the years, we have received a great deal of positive feedback concerning our newsletters. Each issue features articles and photographs pertaining to Port Hood’s history. Our Winter 2009 newsletter includes items such as the continuation of the history of Peter Smyth’s Stone House, part 1 of an interview with Angus J. MacDonell and information on Port Hood native John Beaton who discovered gold in Alaska on Christmas Day 1908.
If you are interested in becoming a member and receiving your own copy of the Chestico News, simply complete our membership form (if it does not open, you will need to download Adobe Reader) and return it along with your payment to the Chestico Museum.
You can also e-transfer your $15 membership fee to chesticomuseum@ns.aliantzinc.ca – in the comments please indicate that this is for a new membership. Be sure to include your full name, mailing address, email address and newsletter delivery preference (email or postal).
If you are still undecided about membership, we invite you to read one of our back issues of the Chestico News. Our Spring 2007 issue (if it does not open, you will need to download Adobe Reader) is a good representation of the type of material that appears in our newsletters. A popular item in this issue was a 1979 interview with Flora (MacEachen) Anderson who was well known and well loved by many Port Hood residents. We hope you enjoy her story!
