Future Site of Chestico Place

Future Site of Chestico Place

In 2004, a feasibility study was commissioned by the Chestico Museum & Historical Society in order to determine if re-locating to the centre of Port Hood would be in the best interests of both the Society and Port Hood as a whole.  Since then, after many consultation meetings and research, a development and business plan have been created and submitted to various levels of government and funding agencies.

In 2006, part of the former Port Hood Consolidated School property was purchased by the Society for the development of our new facility to be called Chestico Place.  This new facility will house our heritage museum, a tea room, gift shop, activity area (for school groups and public events) and the new Inverness County Archives.  The location, near the centre of the village, overlooking Port Hood Harbour, will be an excellent venue for both local residents and visitors to the area to enjoy our history and culture.  The archives and research centre will be an important addition to Inverness County and western Cape Breton.
