The 2014 Celtic Colours lineup has been announced!  The Chestico Museum is pleased to once again be hosting two events.

On Tuesday, October 14 at 2 PM, a Kitchen Ceilidh celebrating families and friends will be held at the museum. This afternoon of stories and tea, will feature local tales of family life in Port Hood as well as interesting characters from the past and events of note. Admission is $10.

The evening of October 15, the Chestico Museum show Close to the Floor will be held at 7:30 PM at Strathspey Place in Mabou. Dancing, close to the floor, was commonly done in the kitchen where the sound was the best. And if there was no one around to play fiddle or pipes, puirt a beul, or mouth music, was usually readily available. There will be some great examples of that with Mary Ann Kennedy and Artist in Residence Nic Gareiss. The show will also feature Artist in Residence Mac Morin who will perform with Nic and also Dannsa, a six-piece Scottish group dedicated to dance. Mac will join piper Fin Moore and fiddler Sarah Hoy on piano, and dancers Caroline Reagh, Sandra Robertson, and Frank McConnell on his feet. With local steppers Harvey MacKinnon, the Warner Sisters, and Joe Rankin, and dancer and fiddler Mairi Rankin, step dancing comes full circle as Scotland and Cape Breton unite.

Ticket prices are $35/$30/$25 and are available through the Celtic Colours site or the Strathspey Place Box Office. Tickets go on sale Monday, July 7 at 10 AM ADT.

Prior to our Storytelling, you can begin your day with a Chestico Breakfast at St. Peter’s Parish Hall. A full breakfast choice of beverage is available between 8 and 10 AM at a cost of $8.

Beginning at 11 AM, you can purchase a delicious soup and sandwich lunch for just $7 at St. Stephen’s Church Hall. After lunch you can browse their sale of assorted local crafts.

A roast beef supper is available that evening at St. Peter’s Parish Hall beginning at 4:30 PM. The meal is sponsored by the Port Hood Knights of Columbus. The cost is $15 for adults and $7 for children 12 and under.

We look forward to seeing you this year during Celtic Colours!
